A Day Late, but...

Yesterday was Easter, one of the most important days on the calendar for Christians.  We celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, from the dead after having given His life on the cross of Calvary for our sins.  I had originally meant to post in commemoration of the date yesterday, but between church and family, I didn't spend much time on the computer at all.  However, maybe there's a positive for not posting until today....

The Greatest Story Ever Told

In honor of our Savior's birth, I'm devoting this blog entry to the retelling of the Christmas story.  Reading this story every year is a Christmas Eve tradition at our house, and I wanted to share it with all of you.  Merry Christmas!

Luke 2:1-20 (New American Standard)

Now in those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus, that a census be taken of all the inhabited earth. This was the first census taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria.  And everyone was on his way to register for the census, each to his own city.  Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, in order to register along with Mary, who was engaged to him, and was with child.  While they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth.  And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Just wanted to take a minute to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving.  Today is a special day, the day we set aside to give God thanks for all that He has blessed us with.  It is a day for food and family fellowship.  And, at least in this house, it's a day for watching the Dallas Cowboys play and hopefully win a football game.

Seriously, giving thanks shouldn't be confined to one day on the calendar; we have been blessed too richly for that.  Take a minute and think about everything you've been given, especially the stuff we tend to take for granted.  Even the simplest things can be considered a blessing.  In just a short period of time, you'll find yourself with quite of list of things for which to give thanks.

Have a blessed, happy, and safe Thanksgiving.  Philippians 4:13.--SMS

Easter

On the first Easter, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ won the victory over death.  The stone was rolled away.  The tomb is empty, but the hope we have in Him is anything but empty.  He offers forgiveness of sins and eternal life to all who will admit that they are sinners, believe that He is the Son of God, and confess His name.  Praise God for what He has done, that we could have never deserved!

The link below will take you to the comic strip "B.C."  Its creator, Johnny Hart (1931-2007), was known for incorporating Christian themes into his strips.  It's good to see that the tradition lives on:

Good Friday

Just wanted to take a moment on today, Good Friday, to acknowledge the atoning sacrifice of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  He who was without sin took on all of our sins so that we might be forgiven and have the opportunity to spend eternity if Heaven with Him, if we will be accept.  Thank You, Lord, for showing us such matchless love!  John 3:16.--SMS
